All students at the University are automatically entitled to use the facilities of LUSU [the Students' Union], which are run from a central office, at present based in Slaidburn House, near the centre of the University.
The Union exists to provide a wide range of facilities and services to students, including:
There is an elected Union Council of approximately fifty representatives. The six elected full-time 'sabbatical officers' are accountable to the student body through the above mechanism.
Much of the day-to-day work and service provision is undertaken by the permanent staff who are jointly employed by the University and Students' Union. The General Manager acts as University Head of Department to LUSU staff and organises the implementation of Union policy by those staff.
As University employees, staff working in the Students' Union are entitled to, and do enjoy, all the benefits available to University staff.
