It is important for you to note that you must not submit an application form unless you can produce documentation such as a passport or full birth certificate to prove you are eligible to work in the UK, as a contract of employment cannot be issued.

The deadline for applications is noon, Monday 02 June 2008 with interviews taking place on Monday 09 June 2008.

There are ten positions for the Ents Crew and two positions for Supervisor.

Successful candidates need to be available to attend a training session in at some point in week 9 and will be required to undertake health and safety training and confirm their fitness to crew. Shifts may include early morning starts or evening work. All crew are required to be sober and will not consume alcohol or illegal substances whilst on duty or arrive on duty under the influence of either.

Information about LUSU

All students at the University are automatically entitled to use the facilities of LUSU [the Students' Union], which are run from a central office, at present based in Slaidburn House, near the centre of the University.

The Union exists to provide a wide range of facilities and services to students, including:

There is an elected Union Council of approximately fifty representatives. The six elected full-time 'sabbatical officers' are accountable to the student body through the above mechanism.

Much of the day-to-day work and service provision is undertaken by the permanent staff who are jointly employed by the University and Students' Union. The General Manager acts as University Head of Department to LUSU staff and organises the implementation of Union policy by those staff.

As University employees, staff working in the Students' Union are entitled to, and do enjoy, all the benefits available to University staff.

Job Description

Title: Ents Crew & Supervisors [End of Term Events]
Department: End of Term Events / Grad Ball
Number of positions: 10 Crew - 2 Supervisors
Responsible to: Claire Geddes [Extravs / Alex Park Festival] and Lin Denham [Graduation Ball]
Hours of work available: 12 average
Current rate of pay: £6.08 [Crew] and £7.12 [Supervisor] per hour including holiday pay

Purpose of job

To contribute in a professional manner to the smooth and efficient running of LUSU events and have due regard for good customer care and health and safety

Major Duties

  1. To support the set up and dismantling of key University events taking place in weeks 9 and 10 of the summer term. This will include:
  2. To manually handle sound, lighting and other production equipment to and from venues.
  3. Under the direction of the event manager or supplier, help assemble or dismantle equipment.
  4. Assist with the installation of extrav fencing to a site map ensuring it has been installed correctly as per instructions.
  5. If requested by the Event Manager, to liaise with external ‘acts’ or suppliers and provide them with what they need.
  6. To be aware of and comply with, health and safety guidelines and laws with regard to public entertainment and any equipment you use, referring to your supervisor if in any doubt.
  7. To assist with any other necessary preparations for events where required.
  8. If applicable, to drive vehicles [including long-wheel based vans] on behalf of LUSU moving fencing / staging.
Additional Responsibilities for Supervisor
  1. To ensure the crew adheres to the safe systems of work prescribed by the Events Manager and relevant method statements.
  2. To ensure that fencing is installed correctly and signing off on the completion of fencing with College Event Organisers.
  3. To supervise the erecting of fencing at each college ensuring it is done:
  4. To liaise with the Event Managers, immediately reporting any operational or health and safety issues.
